AegisAI Secures $36M as AI-Driven Phishing Attacks Surge

AegisAI, an email security startup, recently announced it has raised $36 million in funding to combat the rapidly growing threat of AI-generated phishing attacks. Reports indicate that AI-driven phishing has surged fivefold over the past year, prompting AegisAI to develop technology that utilizes autonomous AI agents to protect corporate inboxes from these sophisticated threats. Founded by former Google security executives, AegisAI employs large language models to analyze the intent and identity behind each email, allowing it to detect attacks that traditional filters might miss. According to the company, AI-generated phishing emails accounted for 2.8% of the phishing attempts observed in early 2025, rising to 13.9% by the end of the year. Furthermore, these AI-generated emails reached inboxes at nearly twice the rate of human-written attacks. Cy Khormaee, co-founder of AegisAI, emphasized that traditional security measures are insufficient against AI-driven threats, necessitating an AI-based defense. The new funding will be used to scale its network of defense agents and advance the general availability of Vanguard, AegisAI's threat-hunting agent. This development highlights the urgent need for innovative security solutions in the face of evolving cyber threats.
